5th Annual Concert for the Cure

As the end of November draws near, and students begin to prepare for the most academically challenging part of the semester, the Concert for the Cure is also that much closer to coming to fruition. Exciting new details have been solidified regarding the location and band for the 2010 concert. The 5th Annual Concert for the Cure featuring Reckless Kelly will be held at Cowboys Dance Hall on January 22, 2010.

The process of planning an event the magnitude of the Concert for the Cure is one that requires negotiating with many country music bands. The challenge lies in not only selecting an affordable band but also in choosing a band that has wide appeal for country music experts as well as those who seldom listen to this music genre. Reckless Kelly, a familiar band from Texas, is a perfect fit for this year’s concert. With hits titled, “Nobody’s Girl” and “Fast Eddie’s Last Hurrah” Reckless is sure to put on a show that will please all in attendance.

Cowboys Dance Hall is well-known locale for country-western fans of all ages in the San Antonio area. In fact, many Trinity students dress up and attend their weekly College Night for an evening full of fun, dancing, and country music. The size, atmosphere, and overall appeal of Cowboys Dance Hall make it the perfect location to host Concert for the Cure.

The Concert for the Cure Committee is excited for the coming concert and hopes that you too will be in attendance! Tickets for the concert will go on sale soon. Trinity students, faculty, and staff will be able to purchase tickets on campus, while those outside of the Trinity community will be able to purchase tickets through Cowboys Dance Hall. We hope to see you there!

Getting Involved

If you’re a part of the Trinity community, you may now have attended a Concert for the Cure fundraiser such as a party at Tycoon Flats or eaten food from the concession stands. Even if you’ve only read about the Concert for the Cure, you may also be wondering “How do I get involved?”

The Concert for the Cure has become a Trinity tradition that all students, faculty, and staff look forward to. Through the work of the diverse Trinity student body, the concert displays the hard-working and persistent personality that is characteristic of Trinity. Although the Concert for the Cure began as an event sponsored only by Gamma Chi Delta, the subsequent foundation has been supported by on-campus organizations as well as local businesses and hospitals. Sponsoring campus organizations including TIGER Council, Spurs Sorority, Phi Sigma Chi, Omega Phi, and Iota Chi Rho have all pledged to take on the challenge to raise money to put on this concert. The costs of the bands as well as their production costs and location must be covered so that all ticket sales can go to support the American Cancer Society and Camp Discovery. All organizations on campus are invited to become sponsors of the 5th Annual Concert for the Cure. Individuals are also welcome to participate. If you’re interested in getting involved either as an individual or as an organization please contact Mackenzie Kelly at mackenzie.kelly@trinity.edu.
